New brewery inspired by music legend releases six beers
New beer brewing company Lakedown Brewing Co is launching six beers by the glass plus a tap room at its East Sussex microbrewery.
Named after The Who’s Roger Daltrey Lakes built in the 1970s as an oasis of peace, this rural family farm and fishery is central to the brewery’s history and home to its bar.
The Lakedown range is said to include ‘avant-garde beers’ ranging from complex bitters to refreshing lagers that combine time-honored methods with contemporary brewing equipment for modern and traditional beers.
The beers are Pilsner (440 ml, 5% ABV): made from Saaz hops, German malts and Bavarian lager yeast; English Pale (440ml, 4.2% alcohol): the brewery’s nicest beer to date, which is loaded with Cascade and Ernest English hops and then dry-hopped for an aromatic finish; Pale Ale (440ml, 4.2% alcohol): it is filled with Cascade, Chinook and Citra hops and was created to be a session; New England IPA (440ml, 5.3% BAC): Neipa uses Citra, Mosaic and Centennial hops and is said to have a tropical aroma and a punchy, fruity flavor; Best Bitter (500ml, 4.4% BAC): Using all British ingredients, it’s ‘chock full of biscuit malts’ with Pioneer, Cascade and Jester hops with local malts and yeast; and IPA (500ml, 5% ABV): a full-bodied transatlantic fusion that blends English IPA traditions with American New World hops with Centennial and Mosaic hops joining Jester, a new British hops to impart a rich fruit aroma and a satisfying bitterness.

Rums arrive in the UK from Grenada terroir
A rum distillery start-up located in Grenada, Caribbean, has launched a line of spirits that use their land to create the best sugar cane possible.
Mark Reynier, who was behind the rebirth of Bruichladdich single malt whiskey from Islay and the Waterford Distillery, aims to explore the effect of terroir, cane variety and style of distillation on rum flavor. at the Renegade Rum Distillery.
Beverage distributor Specialty Brands brings three pre-cask white rums to the UK, which are the distillery’s very first distillates. Dunfermline Farm is located in the east of the island and surrounded by tropical forest. Its Dunfermline – Pot Still rum is unaged and produced from fresh sugar cane juice of the Lacalome Rouge variety. The cane is distilled using a double retort still creating a white rum that shows sweet notes of figs and stone fruit, golden raisins, fresh lemon zest and a smooth texture.
Dunfermline – Column Still also uses the Lacalome red cane variety. The juice undergoes controlled fermentation and distillation in a double column still. The result is a rum with light sweet aromas, with tropical notes of banana and pineapple, eucalyptus, aloe and freshly cut cane. The rum has a velvety texture with sweet notes of orange and sweet marmalade.
While Old Bacolet – Pot Still is not aged and is produced from fresh sugarcane juice of the fast growing Cain variety. Mellow with hints of caramel and vanilla, the rum is said to have a robust spicy flavor, from cinnamon to allspice, with a sweet toasted nutty that gives way to a dry and lasting finish.
