MOTOTESTO OVERLAND Equipment and Petron Philippines appeal to competitive urban adventurers with high-performance 4×4 vehicles. The Petron Philippine 2022 Land Expedition: Pacific Coast Challenge – running concurrently with the 6e Philippine Overland Expo – runs October 12-16. Thirty teams are expected to “undertake the task of traversing one of the most uncharted paths along the Pacific Coast”. At stake for the winning teams is a total prize which is expected to exceed 1 million pesos. The event champion will receive P500,000, second place P200,000, third place P100,000, and two special winners will receive P75,000 each.
Competitors will start from the LausGroup event center in San Fernando, Pampanga, and travel a 285 kilometer stretch that will end in General Nakar, Quezon. Teams will earn points based on completing ‘quests’ on the trail which consists of 160 kilometers of paved road and 120 kilometers of gravel, sand, mud, rocky paths and river crossings. The team with the highest score at the finish line will be declared the nation’s first-ever Petron Philippine Land Expedition Champion. Teams are expected to be greeted at the last stop by outdoor enthusiasts and Overland Expo spectators. Campers will enjoy four days and three nights of “distraction-free nature adventure,” with like-minded people who “share the same passion and adrenaline for the extraordinary.”
Mototesto President and CEO, Tim Tuazon, himself an overseas enthusiast, said, “The main purpose of creating this event is to showcase the beauty of the Philippines and enhance the connection with our Mototesto customers, while promoting unforgettable experiences with them. The company has been part of the offroad community since 2011 and is the official distributor for Koni Suspensions, MMOV, EcoFlow, Softopper and other brands relevant to the offroad scene. The partnership with Petron Philippines is expected to turn into a long-term bond between the oil company and the country’s growing 4×4 community. Petron offers world-class quality products such as Petron Turbo Diesel, Diesel Max and Rev-XM Tuazon continued, “The Philippines has the perfect land and topography for landing, and Petron products are the perfect partners to power our intense passion for this lifestyle. Mototesto is honored to have them on board to take overlanding to the next level.
Meanwhile, the General Mayor of Nakar, Eliseo R. Ruzol, expressed his gratitude at the press launch and said his municipality is looking forward to tourism opportunities. Notably, part of Petron Philippine Overland Expedition’s CSR initiative is to donate “surplus products,” which could potentially total one million pesos, to different communities in the local government unit.
Each team must consist of a team of six people and three 4×4 vehicles. Part of the requirements is that each vehicle must be a production variant retaining at least 80% of its original body and chassis structure, and must also have full salvage and river crossing capability. This involves having the necessary equipment like a winch and a snorkel. Each team should be self-sufficient and bring provisions such as food and water, a power source, as well as spare parts and essential vehicle supplies to last throughout the event. “This expedition will definitely test each team’s endurance, resilience, camaraderie, off-road capabilities and survival skills,” Mototesto said in a statement.
On the other hand, the 6e Philippine Overland Expo is where outdoor enthusiasts, spectators, families and friends can gather and take part in a four-day camping experience. The campsite will be the final stop of the Overlanding Expedition and is where the awards ceremony will be held as the 30 teams complete their journey. “We expect at least 300 vehicles next October,” Tuazon said. “The merging of the two events will see the largest gathering of overlanders and outdoor enthusiasts in the country, and we hope to show our nation that this extraordinary way of life is growing and will continue to grow for years to come.”
