Branches in Glen Elm, Regent Place, Albert, Connaught and Prince of Wales opened to the public on Thursday. The Central Library, George Bothwell, Sherwood Village and Sunrise branches will reopen on July 13.

Visitors can expect to see what has now become a familiar sight: directional arrows on the ground, physical distancing reminders, and capacity limits to make sure there aren’t too many people in the room. ‘space.

Many seats have been removed from the locations to allow for better physical distancing and to discourage people from spending unnecessary time in the library.

“(We) play down some of those things that ultimately mean people congregate for a long time at the library and allow people to move around as much as possible,” said Jeff Barber, library director and CEO of RPL.

The computer stations will be open to the public, but will be far from each other. Access to the Dunlop Art Gallery, Digital Media Studio and musical instrument lending services will also resume.

Although branches are open again, curbside pickup is not going to go away. Currently, curbside pickup is only available at the four largest libraries, but starting Monday, the contactless option will be available at every branch.

“People can go to a branch and call a number and we’ll get it to them,” Barber said.

Fines will also continue to be suspended until at least September. Borrowed items always have due dates that the library encourages people to follow, but no fines will be charged for overdue items.
